Day 16 - Stop 5 - Petrified Forest National Park

After lunch we headed to see the Petrified Forest National Park.  It is not really a forest, that I thought was funny.  It's origin goes back many years, something like 225 millions years ago.

In a nutshell, they say there was a big flood and all these trees got uprooted and washed down a river, the ended up being covered with water and sediment.  Later the land rose up, water dried up, sediment eroded away and left these petrified trees laying on the ground.

It is an amazing place to see, the land is like being on another planet.  It just feels so strange being there, I wonder what early settlers thought of the place when they discovered it.

Day 16 - Stop 4 - Holbrook, AZ - Home of the Wigwam Motel

After leaving Winslow we passed through Holbrook.  Plenty of old Route 66 sights including the Wigwam Motel.  I always remembered seeing the old post cards of the Wigwam, I use to think how cool it would have been to have spent the night there.

Day 16 - Stop 3 - Winslow, AZ

On our way to the Petrified Forest National Monument we passed through Winslow, it was such a fine town to see.  There is a song with words kind of like that, but I did find myself standing on a corner there.  I did see a girl in a flat bed floor, well at least a painting of her.

Day 16 - Stop 2 - Walnut Canyon National Monument

After leaving Montezuma Castle National Monument we headed to Walnut Canyon National Monument.

After viewing the canyon Debra cooked some lunch in the Roadtrek.  We enjoyed pork chops, hash browns and fresh asparagus.   Having a RV makes it great to travel, you have your own bed and kitchen, that is so wonderful!
