Day 19 - The Crescent Hotel - Eureka Springs, Arkansas

After a drive through town we drove up to the Crescent Hotel.  We ate lunch in their parking lot and enjoyed a peaceful and relaxing meal.  After eating we were ready to visit the hotel, being they are pet friendly we brought Spike with us.  He is going to watch out for ghosts for us and let us know if he sees any.  The Crescent Hotel is called America's most haunted hotel.  It has a rich past which includes being more than just a hotel.

It was built in 1886 as a hotel, but it did not stay open long. In 1908 it became the Crescent College and Conservatory for young women.  In 1930 it became a junior college.  In 1937 it became a hospital and health resort that was suppose to cure cancer  and other ailments.  Mostly the treatments were drinking the water from Magnetic Springs.  The owner was charged with mail fraud in 1940 and spent 4 years in prison.

In 1946 was purchased by some investors and in 1967 the hotel caught on fire and was nearly burned to the ground.   In 1997 it was bought again by investors who spent six years renovating and restoring her to how she looks today.

Day 19 - Eureka Springs and the Magnetic Springs

After visiting The Christ of the Ozarks we headed to Eureka Springs.  We stopped for a few minutes at Magnetic Springs.  The story is that if you place a metal object in the spring it will become magnetized.  It is also suppose to have healing properties.

From there we headed into Eureka Springs.  This little town has some unique and often quirky building and homes.  It is really a neat little place to visit, but I would not want to pull a trailer through town!

Next stop, the Crescent Hotel, it is old and haunted!
